Alsager Christmas Market & Light Switch On.

Christmas is coming early to Alsager in 2017

with the light switch on and fireworks.

Alsager /ˈɔːlseɪdʒər/ is a town and civil parish in the unitary authority of Cheshire East and the ceremonial county of Cheshire, England, to the north-west of the city of Stoke-on-Trent, and east of the railway town of Crewe. The town has a population of 11,775.The civil parish is bordered by the parishes of Betchton to the north, Church Lawton to the north-east and east, Kidsgrove in Staffordshire to the south-east, Audley Rural, in Staffordshire to the south, Barthomley to the south-west, Haslington to the west, and Hassall to the north-west.

In the centre of Alsager is a lake, Alsager Mere. This isolated pool, once the focal point of the town, is only accessible by two fenced public viewing areas and by local residents who have gardens adjoining the waters.

Alsager has hosted an annual summer carnival since 1998. Until June 2009 the summer carnival was located in Milton Gardens but it has since moved to the Alsager School Playing Fields to increase capacity.

                                                      English Brunch at Alsager

Organisers of this year’s Alsager’s Christmas Lights Switch-On have promised it will be bigger and better than ever before with a combination of Christmas festive fun, entertainment, Santa’s grotto, lights switch-on, fireworks, fairground rides, food, shopping for all the family and for the first time Signal 1 presenters will be partnering up and supporting this event.

This year’s spectacular will take place on Sunday, 26th November, starting with the Christmas Markets Official Opening at 4pm, by Fiona Bruce MP.

The lights will be switched on at 6pm at Bank Corner by Santa Clause.

Throughout the evening there will be entertainment in the Alsager Civic and for the first time, Santa’s Grotto will be based at the Community Church on Lawton Road.

In addition to the market stalls, many town centre shops will stay open late for shoppers on the hunt for Christmas gifts and Vets4Pets will be hosting a variety of pet stalls for you to go and browse.

Lawton Road will be closed from 12 noon until midnight from Bank Corner to Shady Grove. Brookhouse Road will also be closed and from the Cenotaph on Sandbach Road South to Bank Corner. This will allow for the markets and fairground rides to be set up and dismantled.

In addition, the beautifully lit town Christmas Tree will be located on the lawns outside the Alsager Civic. This year’s tree has kindly been sponsored by Dutton Contractors, Builders Merchants and Traffic Management Services.

And finally, don’t miss the Christmas Tree Festival at Wesley Place Church, which will be running from Friday 24th November.

This community event is brought to you by the Alsager Christmas Events Committee, which is supported by Alsager Partnership, Alsager Round Table, Alsager Town Council and many volunteers.

For an evening of festive fun for all the family, everyone is encouraged to head down to the town centre from 4pm.
