Loughborough (/ˈlʌfbərə/ LUFF-brə) is a town in the Charnwood borough of Leicestershire, England. It is the seat of Charnwood Borough Council and home to Loughborough University. The town is close to the Nottinghamshire border and is within a short distance of locations such as Nottingham, the East Midlands Airport and Derby.

Loughborough University is a public research university located in the market town of Loughborough, Leicestershire, in the East Midlands of England. It has been a university since 1966, but the institution dates back to 1909, when the then Loughborough Technical Institute began with a focus on skills and knowledge which would be directly applicable in the wider world. In March 2013, the university announced it had acquired the former broadcast centre at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park which opened as a second campus in 2015. It was a member of the 1994 Group until the group was dissolved in November 2013.
Loughborough ranks particularly highly for engineering and technology and is noted for its sports-related courses and achievements. In 2013, the university won its seventh Queen's Anniversary Prize, awarded in recognition of its impact through research and skills development in High Value Manufacturing to create economic growth. The university is also rated five star for excellence by Quacquarelli Symonds through QS Star Scheme.
The university's main campus is in the Leicestershire town of Loughborough. The Loughborough campus (once the estate of Burleigh Hall) covers an area of 438 acres (1.77 km2), and includes academic departments, halls of residence, the Students' Union, two gyms, gardens and playing fields.
Of particular interest are the walled garden, the "garden of remembrance", the Hazlerigg-Rutland Hall fountain-courtyard and the Bastard Gates.
Loughborough University London is based on the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, which covers 560 acres, with 6.5 km of waterways and 4,300 new trees. The campus is within close reach of major transport links and teaches postgraduate degrees only, teaching a wide range of master's degrees offered by the university. It also has a thriving doctoral research community.
Loughborough offers the perfect balance between being vibrant and busy, but also close enough that it is easy to walk everywhere and be fully involved with everything on offer.
The town provides the student essentials, with plenty of open space, gardens, shopping and entertainment. The location is also ideal for exploring the cities of Nottingham, Leicester and Derby, as well as being close to a variety of tourist attractions such as the Peak District, Sherwood Forest and the National Space Centre.
A full range of national supermarkets can be found, as well as small international shops selling produce from around the world. Loughborough also has a wide range of restaurants offering a diverse selection of global cuisines, and there is ample provision for specialist diets, including Halal. Loughborough town centre compliments the vast selection of activities happening on campus. From numerous clubs and bars to more causal pubs and cafes, there are lots of places to meet in the town centre. Loughborough also hosts a six screen Odeon cinema.
In addition, Loughborough’s location makes it easy to get around. With regular bus and train routes making us less than 20 minutes to the cities of Leicester, Nottingham and Derby, which offer further activities. It’s also easy to explore much further afield, London for example is less than 90 minutes by train.
